Handball win brings Denmark and Greenland closer than ever
Danish and Greenlandic supporters of the men’s national handball-team celebrated their victory against Germany, at the European Championship, on Monday (February 2) in front of the City Hall in Copenhagen.
The City Hall was decorated with bright red flags and celebratory posters. Among the sea of red flags was the Greenland national flag in solidarity with the Danes. Ever since Trump's threatening behaviour of taking over Greenland, it has only strengthened the bonds in the Danish Realm.
Crowds gathered at Copenhagen City Hall to commemorate their historic win, as it had been 14 years since their last win at the championships.
The team members were welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Sisse Marie Welling, for pancakes inside the City Hall, a Danish tradition to celebrate winning athletes. They were then greeted by screaming crowds donning the red and white colours.
Victorious athletes have always been a triumph for Danes, as they are often celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride.
They shared their glory with the Greenlandic people as a Greenland flag rose among the crowds.
