According to recent visitor statistics from the National Museum of Korea, around 4 million people visited in the first half of 2025 — a 1.7-fold increase compared to 2.3 million during the same period last year. The figure has already surpassed the museum’s 2024 record, when it ranked eighth among museums worldwide.

“After watching the K-Pop Demon Hunters, I reflected more on Korean culture. I learned that the tiger featured in the film was inspired by Jakhodo, housed at the National Museum of Korea, which made me want to visit during this summer vacation,” – said Minjeong Cha, a visitor to the National Museum of Korea.

“I think the rising popularity of Korea culture has also shone a spotlight on traditional Korean culture, which forms its foundation,” Cha said. The museum’s well-organized gift shop is great for travel souvenirs, and admission is free, so there’s no financial barrier.”

Riding on this wave of popularity, the National Museum of Korea invited film director Maggie Kang, who toured the museum’s signature artifacts and met with National Museum’s director.

“I was deeply inspired by the National Museum of Korea,” she said. “As I continue to explore traditional Korean culture, I plan to incorporate Korea’s inherent identity into contemporary creative works.”

At the meeting, Director Hongjoon Yoo said, “Based on a broad understanding and interest in traditional Korean culture, I hope to see diverse content spread globally, including Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters."

"As the museum is seeing growing visits from younger generations, including those in their 20s and 30s, we will continue exploring various ways to carry this momentum forward.” He added that he hopes the strong interest in Korean culture and the museum will continue.
