Life on two wheels
In Copenhagen, biking is more than transport; it has become a way of life. Rain or shine, day or night, people get around on their bikes.
Almost half of the population in Copenhagen uses a bike as their mode of transport.
Three students studying Creative Communication at DMJX in Copenhagen describe it as an integral part of their everyday routine.
"I grew up biking and all my friends also bike everywhere. Taking the bike is the fastest way to get around'', says Nikolaj.
For them, it’s the most practical choice because they don’t have to wait for public transport.
But convenience isn’t the only reason.
"It wakes you up in the morning, and clears your head, especially in the cold", Bastian says.
Riding the bike becomes a small mental reset before the day begins, helping people feel more present and focused according to the student.
Freedom feeling
There’s also a sense of independence that locals enjoy.
"I like the freedom feeling. You can just go wherever you want, whenever you want", Marcus says.
They don’t have to depend on the schedule of public transport, making it easier for them to take control over their time.
For these students, cycling blends transport, exercise, and freedom into one simple habit. In Copenhagen, this is more than a student trend; it’s a part of the city’s identity. Where streets, bike lanes, and urban design all prioritize two wheels over four.
