Greenlandic youth politician: “The question is not if, but when the US will take Greenland”
On Wednesday morning Denmark’s national broadcaster (DR) quoted from a source that Americans had been conducting a convert operation. Americans had walked around making lists of people in Greenland who would be willing to become a part of the US.
Aqqalukkuluk Fontain is the leader of the IA youth party in Greenland. He states that there isn’t a question if the USA will go for Greenland, it’s when.
“It is scary because Greenlanders will not let it by, if he does something crazy, we will fight back using true freedom and democracy.” Fontain says to Resonans.
Greenland's prime minister speaks out
Wednesday night Greenland’s Prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, gave out a statement to DR. “We are a working partner, we are an ally, and there for we expect that the diplomatic rules apply for us aswell.” Nielsen continues to state that the news does not come as a surprise for him. Trump has uttered numerus times that he wants to buy Greenland and make it American.
Wednesday morning the Danish foreign minister called inn for an emergency pressconference, reports Danish TV2. The Danish government quotes important, but anonyms sources that says, men with relations to President Trump have tried to infiltrate Greenland. The DR has not been able to confirm if the Americans have done this on their own initiative or if it’s an operation from higher above.
The US tells Denmark to calm down
BBC reports that the US tells Denmark to ‘calm down’ over the alleged Greenland influence operation. A White House official would not confirm the influence operation but says that “We think the Danes need to calm down”.
The Danish foreign minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said "any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom [of Denmark] will of course be unacceptable"
