A QUEER WAY OF LIVING

What does it mean to be a young queer in Århus ? I would say it’s like living an ordinary life : going to school, bouldering, laughing with friends.

Cecilia, 23 years old student, came back to Denmark after spending 2 gap years in Berlin. She found there an amazing queer community and friends. Coming from a hometown where queer acceptance was limited, This change of scene was like fresh air.

However, the transition back was difficult : without friends or community, she felt isolated and missed the LGBTQ+ community she had known in Germany.

Experiencing such a strong sense of queer community made her search for it in Århus. That’s how she found the LGBTQ+ huset, a safe place for queer people. She directly applied as a volunteer and got in. Now, she’s devoting herself to promoting that safe place in organising events such as music quizz or drag shows.
