Imagine a place where you can see Viking Age-style buildings and people in Viking clothes, and then you walk just about three to five minutes, and now you have traveled from the Viking Age to the Stone Age and then the 1800s. Each place has architecture and people who look like they're from these eras. Welcome to Sagnlandet Lejre.

Sagnlandet Lejre is an archaeological museum in Denmark, located near the town of Lejre. The place is divided into four areas that represent different times in history: the Stone Age, the Iron Age, the Viking Age, and the 1800s. All these eras help tell the history of Denmark with an immersive experience that is led not just by people who dress up in old-age attire, but by historians who actively study history. Throughout the experience, you will find recreations of buildings in the set eras that give us a glimpse at life for people back in those eras. Together, these areas bring Denmark’s past to life and allow visitors to experience history in a way that goes beyond simply reading about it.

Sagnlandet Lejre’s Iron Age Village area features buildings inspired by the Iron Age.

A goose head and heart on a Viking altar that would have been used in the Viking Age when sacrificing an animal to the Nordic gods. Sagnlandet Lejre doesn’t usually perform this ritual; they only reenact the ritual done in the Viking Age when an animal has to be put down humanely by a game warden when an animal attacks a guest on the property.
