Erling's two dogs and his craft are what helps him manage his grief. The dogs rarely leave his side while at home. And when Erling is out in the workshop, concentrating on the elk, 'there's not much space for sad thoughts' in his mind.

The 50 years of taxidermy experience allows Erling to precisely depict the form, anatomy and natural expression of animals.
As he is adjusting the jaw of the elk, he is sure that 'People are not going to notice this little smile line here. But if it wouldn't be there, people would notice that something is wrong.'

The sculptures outside in Erling's backyard are for sale - prices are written down next to each one. The sculpture hanging from the roof is called 'Staerway', inspired by the song 'Stairway to heaven' by Led Zeppelin.
