Anna
Anna, 20, from Finland, came to Denmark a few months ago to build a life from scratch. But without an address there was no job, and without a job there was no home.
Through the X-community she found friends - people who had built small sheds on unused DSB-owned land. A place that wasn’t meant for anyone, but had become a temporary home for many. They lived there quietly until DSB showed up and Anna was asked to leave.
Just before the cold season, she managed to find a room, furnished only with things she picked up from the streets of Aarhus. She now lives in Denmark legally, though her future still feels uncertain. Rent remains barely affordable, and stability comes in short bursts.
What Anna is working on, despite all of this, is a safe space for others. A place to fall when the system doesn’t catch you.
At the old site, before they had to move, the community set up an exhibition showing the city’s and DSB’s development plans (modernisation, construction, "renewal") They want to protect the last green pocket of the city. A reminder that even small, improvised places can hold real lives.
